Cold Weather Tyres

Seven Degrees Celcius and below, Thats the temperture that cold/winter weather tyres come into their own. The rubber in summer tyres begin to harden and this affects grip levels when cornering and braking. The rubber in cold weather tyres however is made from a higher natural rubber content and can work at lower temperatures. Other reasons cold weather tyres are better suited to winter conditions is the number of sipes (cuts in the tyre tread) they are used for water clearance and also to actutally hold snow in the tread as thte best grip is snow on snow contact. A typical cold weather tyre also has deeper tread 13mm compared to 8mm on summer tyre so its perfect for clearing all the rain/slushy snow conditions. The difference even in the wet can be quite dramatic. In snow and ice the cold weather tyres are a world of difference as the video below shows. We think its at least worth considering afterall, if the drivers of continental Europe switch every year. Why shouldnt we?
